10 Rocks for Fish tanks, Red Metamorphic Stone from California.
There are 10 stones of varying sizes. The photos show the approximate size of the biggest and the smallest rock in a set. The stones will be similar to the ones in the photos, but not identical as they are natural things :O)
Ships by USPS priority mail (about 3 days for delivery).
The rocks can be placed in a fish tank or a rock garden. It is recommended to rinse them prior to use as they will generate some dust during transit. These stones are chemically inert and will not affect the pH of the water or any other parameters. What is Metamorphic Rock?
Metamorphic rocks form when the original or "parent" rock is exposed to high temperatures ( around 200-300C
) and great pressure deep within the Earth's crust or at the boundaries of tectonic plates. They can often be seen at the surface in exposed hillsides and resemble folded bands. It takes many hundreds of thousands of years for metamorphic rock
to form. The high temperature and pressure cause the structure of the protolith or parent rock to recrystallize and form an entirely new stone. Any type of rock can transform into a metamorphic rock under the right conditions and temperature. If the temperature is too low the rock won't metamorphose, and if the temperature rises above 300C, the rock will just melt and become igneous rock instead of metamorphic. For instance, these dark red rocks come from the California coast and were originally sedimentary rock—accumulated layers of sand, minerals, marine organisms, and other matter compressed and cemented over millions of years. Eventually, this sedimentary rock was transformed by pressure and heat into metamorphic rock.
